Antica grotta mineraria

The ancient mining cave, located near Carloforte on the island of San Pietro, is inserted in a coastal and hilly context strongly linked to the extractive tradition of the area. The surrounding landscape is characterized by rocky outcrops, stretches of Mediterranean scrub and panoramic views of the sea, typical of the south-western territory of Sardinia.
The site is one of the testimonies of the local mining archaeology: it is a cavity linked to ancient extraction activities, today no longer active, which preserve traces of human work within the rock. The environment is essential and marked by time, with excavated spaces and irregular conformations that tell the productive history of the island. The panoramic position adds value to the place, making it also an observation point on the coastal landscape of Carloforte.
