Antica Tonnara Su Pranu

The Antica Tonnara Su Pranu is located in the heart of Portoscuso, in Sulcis-Iglesiente, and is one of the most important complexes of industrial archaeology of Sardinia. The site is one of the most significant historical testimonies related to the tradition of red tuna fishing in the Mediterranean.
The plant dates back to the end of the 16th century and develops as a complex coastal production, intended for the capture, processing and conservation of tuna. Its structure reflects the typical organization of historical tonnages, with functional spaces dedicated to the different stages of processing and life of the fishing communities.
The context is closely linked to the sea and the strategic position of Portoscuso, characterized by currents favourable to the passage of tuna and a coast suitable for ancient fishing techniques. The architectural structure preserves a strong historical and identity value, linked to the traditional economy of Sulcis.
