Basilica di Sant’Antioco Martire

The Basilica of Sant’Antioco Martire is one of the most important places of cult of Sardinia and represents the spiritual heart of the island of Sant’Antioco. The church is dedicated to the patron saint of the island and the region, a central figure of the local Christian tradition, and stands on a site of great historical and archaeological value that preserves evidence of the early Christian and Byzantine era. The current building is the result of architectural stratifications ranging from ancient martyrium to medieval times to Baroque interventions, creating a rich and complex structure from a historical point of view. Inside there are important relics of the saint and environments related to ancient worship, including catacombs and archaeological sites that can be visited.
