Borgo di Tratalias

Borgo di Tratalias is located in Sulcis-Iglesiente, in the territory of Tratalias, and is a significant example of medieval historical settlement of south-western Sardinia. The village preserves a compact and well recognizable urban system, linked to the presence of the historic Cathedral of Santa Maria di Monserrato, a central element of the entire town.
The area develops in a flat setting near the Mulargia pond and the wetlands of Sulcis, with a landscape characterized by countryside, lagoon environments and Mediterranean scrub. This position has historically favored the settlement and activities related to rural and religious life.
The village has an essential urban fabric, with stone buildings and structures that reflect the typical characteristics of Sardinian medieval settlements. The cathedral, in Romanesque-Gothic style, is one of the main architectural examples of the area.
