Canale (Rio) di Gutturu Cardaxius

The Gutturu Cardaxius Canal (Rio) is a natural water course located in Sulcis-Iglesiente, in an area characterized by mountainous landscapes, deep valleys and strong presence of Mediterranean scrub. The rio crosses the territorial system of Gutturu Cardaxius, one of the most intact and wild environmental contexts of south-western Sardinia.
The water course develops within a predominantly rocky environment, where erosive action over time shaped natural gorges and canalons. The landscape is dominated by granite and limestone reliefs, spontaneous vegetation and stretches of vegetation along the path of the rio.
The area is an important element of the local hydrographic system, contributing to the maintenance of ecological balances and biodiversity of the territory. The presence of slightly anthropized environments favours the conservation of natural habitats and typical species of the Mediterranean scrub.
