Castello di Palmas

The Castle of Palmas is located in the territory of Sulcis-Iglesiente, in the municipality of San Giovanni Suergiu, and is a medieval fortification linked to the defensive system of the south-west of Sardinia. The site is strategically located, on a hill overlooking the surrounding areas and the connection system between coast and interior.
The structure, today in a state of ruins, preserves traces of the ancient stone walls and defensive structures, typical of Sardinian medieval military architecture. Its function was mainly to control the territory and to take over the local transit routes.
