Castello Salvaterra

The Castello di Salvaterra is located in Iglesias, Sulcis-Iglesiente, in Via Monte Altari, and is one of the most important testimonies of the medieval military architecture of south-western Sardinia. The fortress dominates the historical centre and the surrounding area, in a strategic position to control the ancient urban and mining system.
The structure dates back to the Pisan period, between the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries, and is part of the complex defensive system linked to the management of the territory and the mineral resources of Sulcis. The castle is characterized by stone walls, towers and fortified environments, which highlight the original defensive system.
