Domus de Janas di Monte Crobu

The Domus de Janas of Monte Crobu (Carbonia) is an important funerary complex of prenuragic Sardinia, dating back to the Neolithic and the age of the Copper, located in the territory of Sulcis-Iglesiente (09013 SU). The site represents a significant testimony to the ancient practices of hypogeic collective burial of the prehistoric communities of the island.
The complex consists of tombs carved into the rock, articulated in several interior environments that symbolically reproduce the structures of the houses. The domus de janas were used as funerary spaces for the deposition of the dead and rituals related to the cult of the ancestors, according to traditions typical of prehistoric Sardinia.
The structures of Monte Crobu stand out for their integration with the natural rocky and panoramic position, which enhances the landscape context of the territory of Carbonia. The interiors show the typical architectural organization of prenuragic necropolis, with connecting rooms and ritual spaces.
