Domus de Janas su Stampisceddu

Le Domus de Janas di Su Stampisceddu (Portoscuso) is an important funerary complex of prenuragic Sardinia, dating back to the Neolithic and the age of the Copper, located in the territory of Sulcis-Iglesiente (09010 CI). The site represents a significant testimony to the ancient practices of hypogeic collective burial of the prehistoric communities of the island.
The complex consists of tombs dug in the rock, articulated in communicating interiors, typical of the domus de janas, used as funerary spaces for the deposition of the dead and the conduct of rituals related to the cult of the ancestors. The structures symbolically reproduce the organization of the houses, according to a typical concept of Sardinian prenuragic culture.
The tombs of Su Stampisceddu are inserted in a landscape characterized by rocky outcrops and proximity to coastal areas, an element that highlights the continuity of frequenting the territory during the prehistory. The location and conformation of the site contribute to its archaeological and environmental value.
