Frattura Mineraria Acquaresi

The Mining Fracture of Acquaresi is located in the territory of Iglesiente, between Buggerru and Masua, in Sulcis-Iglesiente, and is one of the most obvious phenomena of transformation of the landscape linked to the extractive activity of south-western Sardinia. It is a vast area affected by subsidence and land disposal due to the collapse of underground voids generated by mining exploitation.
The phenomenon is the direct consequence of the activities of extraction of lead and zinc, which for decades have affected the mines of the area. The progressive emptiness of underground levels has caused superficial fractures and deformations, permanently changing the morphology of the territory.
