Fungo di Pietra

The Fungus of Pietra is located on the island of San Pietro, in the territory of Carloforte, in Sulcis-Iglesiente, and is one of the most peculiar rock formations of the Sardinian coastal landscape. It is a natural element shaped over time by the combined action of wind, rain and sea.
The structure has the typical “fungo” shape, with a narrower base and a wider upper part, result of the processes of differential erosion that acted on the rock. This geomorphological phenomenon has created a natural figure of great visual impact.
The context is characterized by cliffs, Mediterranean vegetation and open sea, elements that contribute to making the landscape particularly suggestive. The area preserves a high degree of naturality, typical of the less anthropized coasts of the island of San Pietro.
