Galleria Ichnusa

The Ichnus Gallery (or Ichnus) is located in Iglesias, Sulcis-Iglesiente, and belongs to the vast system of mining infrastructure linked to the historic district of Monteponi. It is a tunnel excavated in the rock that still preserves the imprint of the extractive activity that has deeply marked this territory.
Originally used for the transport of minerals and for service functions inside the mining complex, the gallery is a typical example of underground engineering developed between the 19th and 20th centuries in the English.
Today the route is included in hiking itineraries that cross the abandoned mining area, offering an immersive experience between rocky walls, dark environments and remains of industrial archaeology. The context maintains an authentic and unmodified atmosphere, linked to the memory of work in the mine.
