Grotta della Rana

The Grotto della Rana, located in the territory of Domusnovas in Sulcis-Iglesiente, is in a natural context characterized by limestone reliefs, Mediterranean vegetation and karst environments typical of the area. The surrounding landscape alternates rocky areas and greener sections, maintaining a high naturality and a limited anthropic impact.
The cavity formed thanks to the karst erosion processes, which shaped the limestone rock creating irregular and articulated interior spaces. The name “Grotta della Rana” is linked to local tradition and probably to morphological features or popular stories associated with the site. The internal environment is simple but interesting from the geological point of view, with natural forms that testify to the millenary action of water. The site is part of the largest cave system in the Domusnovas area, known for its speleological wealth.
