Grotta di Santa Barbara

The Cave of Santa Barbara, located within the Monte San Giovanni in the territory of Iglesias, is one of the most amazing underground sites of Sulcis-Iglesiente. Inserted in the context of the historic lead-zincifera mine of San Giovanni, it represents a rare example of a natural environment hidden for centuries and discovered only in 1952 during mining activities.
This cavity is considered a true geological unicum, characterized by spectacular crystalline formations and environments of great visual impact, generated by extremely slow natural processes. Access takes place through the mining path, making the visit an experience that combines industrial archaeology and nature. To ensure the conservation of the site, the visits are quotated with a maximum number of participants per turn, and the early booking is recommended. The cave is one of the most suggestive and particular places of the entire territory.
