Grotta Santuario di Pirosu

The Sanctuary of Pirosu, located in the territory of Santadi in Sulcis-Iglesiente, is inserted in a hilly context characterized by limestone, Mediterranean vegetation and a natural landscape still intact. The area is typical of the south-western Sardinian hinterland, where human presence is intertwined with a strong environmental continuity.
The site is mainly known for its archaeological and cult value, being a cave used in ancient times as a place of attendance and possible ritual activity. The interiors, shaped by nature and time, have essential but significant spaces, with traces that refer to the human presence of the past. The character of “sanctuary” comes from these elements, which give the cave a special importance within the prehistoric patrimony of Sulcis.
