Grotte della Mezzaluna

The caves of Mezzaluna, located in the territory of Carloforte on the island of San Pietro, are inserted in a coastal context of great naturalistic value, where cliffs shaped by the wind and the sea alternate with small coves and rocky traits. The environment is typical of the south-west Sardinia, characterized by a balance between wild nature and clear sea landscapes.
The cavities formed over time thanks to the erosive action of the waves, which carved the rock creating irregular and suggestive spaces. The name “Mezzaluna” recalls the conformation of the area, probably linked to the curved shape of the coast or the natural openings. The site stands out for the atmosphere collected and for the contrasts between the clear rock and the intense blue of the sea, resulting in a point of interest especially for those who explore the coast by sea or along the coastal paths.
