La Domus de Janas de Monti S’Accona

The Domus de Janas of Monti S’Accona (Teulada) is an important funerary complex of prenuragic Sardinia, dating back to the Neolithic and the age of the Copper, located along the SS195 Sulcitana (09019 SU) in the territory of Sulcis. The site represents a significant testimony to the ancient practices of hypogeic collective burial of the prehistoric communities of the island.
The complex consists of graves carved into the rock, articulated in interior environments that symbolically reproduce the structure of the houses. The domus de janas were used as funerary spaces for the deposition of the dead and rituals related to the cult of the ancestors, according to the traditions of prehistoric Sardinia.
The structures of Monti S’Accona are inserted in a landscape context of great value, characterized by rocky reliefs and the proximity to important historical directors of route of the territory. This position highlights the continuity of attendance of the area since prehistory.
