Menhir di Terra Coccoi

The Menhir di Terra Coccoi (Gonnesa) is a significant megalithic monument of prenuragic Sardinia, located in the territory of Sulcis-Iglesiente (09010 SU). The site is one of the testimonies of the first forms of monumentalization of the landscape by the Neolithic communities of the island.
The monument consists of a large monolith in stone built vertically in the ground, typical of the menhir spread in Sardinia during the Neolithic period. Its function is generally interpreted as ritual, symbolic or territorial, linked to the definition of sacred spaces and to the collective memory of ancient communities.
