Miniera Monteponi

The Monteponi Mine, located in the territory of Iglesias along the SS126, is one of the most important and historically relevant mining complexes of Sulcis-Iglesiente. The site is part of a hilly landscape typical of the area, where abandoned industrial structures coexist with the Mediterranean nature and with the still visible signs of extractive activity.
The heart of the Sardinian mining industry between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, Monteponi has long been dedicated to the extraction of lead and zinc, contributing decisively to the economic development of the territory. Today the complex preserves historical buildings, plants and structures of great architectural and industrial value, becoming an important example of industrial archaeology. Among its most significant elements are the testimonies of the ancient mills and processing plants, which tell the complexity and importance of the mining production cycle.
