Monte San Giovanni

Monte San Giovanni is located in the town of Miniera San Giovanni, in the territory of Iglesias, in Sulcis-Iglesiente, and is a relief strongly linked to the mining history of south-western Sardinia. The area is part of a hilly context rich in industrial and environmental testimonies, one of the most significant in the iglesiente district.
The site is characterized by the presence of historical mining structures, galleries and remains of extractive plants, today partly abandoned and integrated with spontaneous vegetation. The traces of the extractive activity tell the long mining tradition that shaped this territory.
The surrounding landscape alternates rocky reliefs, Mediterranean scrub and abandoned mining areas, creating a strong contrast between natural environment and industrial archaeology. The conformation of the mountain contributes to defining a landscape context of great historical identity.
