Necropoli di Ghillotta

The Necropolis of Ghillotta (Portoscuso) is an archaeological site of great interest in south-western Sardinia, located in the territory of Sulcis-Iglesiente (09010 SU). The complex represents a significant testimony of the ancient prenuragary communities, with a funerary use linked to the sepulchral practices of the Neolithic and the age of the Copper.
The site consists of hypogetical tombs carved into the rock, which can be traced to the type of domus de janas, used for collective burials. The structures have articulated interiors, funerary rooms and accesses made directly in the rocky counter, according to the typical techniques of Sardinian prehistoric funeral architecture.
The necropolis is part of a landscape characterized by rocky outcrops and proximity to coastal areas and historical settlements, an element that highlights the continuity of frequenting the territory over time.
