Necropoli Is Loccis Santus

The Necropolis of Is Loccis Santus (San Giovanni Suergiu) is an important archaeological site of south-western Sardinia, located in the territory of Sulcis-Iglesiente. The complex represents a significant testimony of prenuragistic and nuragic cultures, with use related to the funerary practices of the ancient local communities.
The site consists of several hypogetical tombs carved into the rock, belonging to the type of domus de janas, used for collective burials. The structures have articulated environments and entrances made directly into the stone, according to the typical techniques of Sardinian prehistoric funeral architecture.
The necropolis is inserted in a landscape context characterized by a strong historical and archaeological value, which bears witness to the territorial continuity and the importance of ritual practices related to the worship of the dead.
