Nuraghe Cuccuru Santa Barbara

The Nuraghe Cuccuru Santa Barbara, in the territory of Villamassargia, is located in a hilly area of the Iglesiente where the landscape is dominated by sweet reliefs, affiorant rocks and Mediterranean scrub. It is a rather open context, in which archaeological traces are inserted without being clearly separated from the natural environment.
The monument, made of local stone, remains today only scattered and unreadable elements, which do not allow to accurately reconstruct the original structure. It is more than a widespread testimony than a building still recognizable in its form, but sufficient to confirm the nuragic presence in the area. The location on a height allows a choice linked to the visibility of the territory, probably exploited for the control of the surrounding areas.
