Nuraghe Papassina

The Nuraghe Papassina is a historical landmark located in the territory of Carloforte, on the island of San Pietro, in a coastal landscape that combines archaeology and Mediterranean environment. Nuraghe Papassina is a testimony of the nuragic civilization, also present in the islands of Sulcis, and is part of a system of popular settlements that involved several strategic areas of south-western Sardinia.
The site, now partially preserved, is linked to the nuragic presence in the island territory, where the ancient communities used privileged positions for the visual control of the coasts and maritime routes. His position at Carloforte makes him particularly interesting, as he testifies to the spread of the nuragic civilization also in insular contexts and not exclusively internal. The Nuraghe Papassina thus contributes to the understanding of the ancient occupation of the Sulcis area and its relationship with the sea.
