Nuraghe Piras

The Nuraghe Piras, located in the territory of Masainas nel Sulcis, is an interesting example of nuragic architecture immersed in a rural and open context, about 4 km from the town. The area where the site rises still retains a strong link with the traditional agricultural landscape of the south-west Sardinia.
The structure, made of local stone, is present today in a state of ruins but maintains traces of the original plant, traceable to a nuragic settlement with probable housing functions and of prey of the territory. The location relatively far from the country suggests a role of control of the surrounding countryside and the ancient internal communication routes.
