Piazza Francesco Murru

The Piazza Francesco Murru of Nuxis, historically known as Red Square, is a central urban space located in the heart of the village in Sulcis. The square took its official name on 6 June 2025, in honor of Francesco Murru, the first mayor of the municipality after administrative autonomy, a reference figure for history and local identity.
The area today represents a significant meeting point for the community, but keeping alive the historical popular name of “Piazza Rossa”, which continues to live with the new official name. This dualism reflects the link between collective memory and institutional recognition.
The distinctive element of the square is the large murals inaugurated on the occasion of the intuition, which contributes to strengthening the cultural and visual value of the space, making it a point of identity of the town.
