Piazza Matteotti

The Matteotti Square in Domusnovas represents the main urban space of the historic centre and is considered the true heart of the social and cultural life of the country. Centrally located and easily accessible from via Cagliari, the square is a daily reference point for the community.
The area is framed by important historical and institutional buildings that testify to its evolution over time. Among these stands the Church of the Blessed Virgin Assumption, a 18th century parish church in neo-Roman style, which dominates the square and houses the Brotherhood of Our Lady of Sorrows, a central element of the local religious tradition.
Next to the church is the former Monte Granatico, a stone building of great historical value today home to the Mineralogical Museum, which enhances the geological richness of the territory of Sulcis-Iglesiente. The Old Town Hall and the Police Command complete the urban context, which strengthen the institutional function of the square.
