Piazza Pilar

The Piazza Pilar of Villamassargia is the main urban space of the village and represents the civil and religious heart of the village in Sulcis Iglesiente. The square plays a central role in community life, hosting institutions, places of worship and the main public events of the area.
The Church of the Madonna del Pilar, a building of late Roman origin dating back to 1318, originally dedicated to San Ranieri, patron of Pisa, and later renamed in the Aragonese era. The church is one of the most important historical and architectural references in the country.
On the square there is also the Town Hall of Villamassargia, which strengthens its institutional and administrative function, making it the operating center of public life of the municipality.
A short distance away is the Church of the Madonna della Neve, dating back to the 12th century, which contributes to enrich the historical and religious context of the area.
