Piazza San Giorgio

Piazza San Giorgio di Piscinas is the main urban space of the small village of Basso Sulcis and represents the real social and religious center of the community. The square is the daily reference point of the country and focuses on itself historical and architectural elements of great value.
The dominant element of space is the Church of the Madonna della Neve, parish of the village, which rises directly on the square. The present building incorporates a chapel dating back to 1365, probably linked to the presence of Benedictine monks, witnessing the ancient religious continuity of the site.
The church stands out for its architecture in local red trachyte and living stone, which gives the complex a strongly identity and tied to the materials of the territory.
A short distance from the square is also the historic Villa Salazar, an ancient patrician residence that further enriches the urban and historical context of the village.
