Pozzo Zimmermann

The Pozzo Zimmermann is located in the mining village of San Benedetto, in the territory of Iglesias, in Sulcis-Iglesiente, and is a significant testimony of industrial archaeology linked to the long extractive tradition of south-western Sardinia. The site is one of the fundamental structures of the iglesiente historical mining system.
The well was part of the mining and service infrastructure of local mines, used for access to underground levels and for the management of mining activities. Its industrial architecture reflects the engineering techniques adopted between the 19th and 20th centuries in the Sulcis mining basin.
