Scavi e Necropoli punica di Sulci

The Scavi e Necropoli punica di Sulci – Ancient town of Sulki (Sant’Antioco) is one of the most important archaeological complexes of south-western Sardinia, linked to the ancient Phoenician-Punique settlement of Sulky, then developed in Roman times. The site is an integral part of the historical and urban fabric of today’s Sant’Antioco.
The area includes a vast system of hypogetical tombs excavated in the rock, organized in funerary chambers and underground corridors, used for individual and family burials. The structures testify to the continuity of funerary practices from the Phoenician and Punic phase to the Romanization of the territory.
The excavations have returned important archaeological evidence that allow to reconstruct the evolution of the ancient city of Sulki, one of the main commercial and strategic centers of the western Mediterranean in ancient times. Necropolis also reflects the social organization and religious beliefs of communities that have happened over time.
