The Iglesias Departmental Service is a technical-operative presidium that performs fundamental functions of coordination, control and support of territorial activities related to environmental and forest protection. The service operates as a reference structure for the activities of local stations, ensuring uniformity and effectiveness in local interventions.
Among the main competences are technical activities of great importance such as the reorganization and management of the hydrogeological bond, the technical-economic protection of the forestry goods of public bodies and local administrations, as well as the drafting and implementation of the forest fire defense plans.
The service also deals with the management of the authorisation procedures for the use of fire, contributing to the prevention of fire risk. Particularly important is the activities of forest statistics, environmental education and protection of cork, together with the management of forest litigation, which strengthens its institutional role in the natural heritage protection system.
