Stagno di Mulargia

The Pond of Mulargia (San Giovanni Suergiu – Porto Botte) is located in Sulcis-Iglesiente, along the coastal stretch between San Giovanni Suergiu and the area of Porto Botte. It is a lagoon environment of great naturalistic interest, inserted in the widest system of ponds and wetlands of the south-west of Sardinia.
The pond is characterized by brackish waters and a delicate balance between the lagoon ecosystem, coastal environment and humid areas, which favor the presence of a rich biodiversity. The landscape is typical of the Sardinian wetlands, with low water surfaces, natural channels and sandy and muddy margins.
The area is surrounded by halophile vegetation and Mediterranean vegetation, adapted to the conditions of salinity, which contributes to the stability of the ecosystem. The location next to the sea and the historical harbour areas of Sulcis strengthens its environmental and landscape value.
