Stagno di Porto Botte

The Pond of Porto Botte is located in the territory of Giba, in the Sulcis-Iglesiente, along the south-western coast of Sardinia. It is an important lagoon environment inserted between the Community Importance Sites (SIC), recognized for the high naturalistic value and the presence of protected habitats.
The pond is characterized by brackish waters, generated by the interaction between sea and internal systems, and by a typical landscape of the coastal humid areas, with low water surfaces, natural channels and sandy and muddy margins. This balance creates ideal conditions for the development of complex and diversified ecosystems.
The vegetation consists mainly of alophile species and Mediterranean scrub, adapted to the conditions of salinity and to the humid soils. The area is a fundamental habitat for many species of migratory avifauna, which use the pond as a stop, feed and nesting point.
