Tempio di Antas

The Temple of Antas is one of the most representative archaeological complexes of Sulcis-Iglesiente, located in the Antas valley, in 09010 Fluminimaggiore (CI). The site is particularly important for its extraordinary historical and religious continuity, which starts from the nuragic era and passes through the punica and Roman phases.
The site was founded as a sanctuary linked to indigenous cults of prehistoric Sardinia, later re-elaborated by the Phoenicians and Punicians until it was identified with the figure of Sardus Pater, the guardian deity of the island. In Roman times the site is monumentalized with the construction of a temple in classical style, made with imperial architectural techniques.
The building is characterized by a podium in local limestone blocks, a pronao with Corinthian columns and a regular structure typical of Roman Templar architecture. It is inserted in a suggestive valley, surrounded by mountainous reliefs and waterways, which contribute to the strong scenic impact of the site.
