Torre di Calasetta

The Torre di Calasetta is located in the inhabited and coastal town of Calasetta, on the island of Sant’Antioco, in Sulcis-Iglesiente, and is one of the most significant testimonies of the coastal defense system of south-western Sardinia. It is a historical coastal tower built with sighting and defense against incursions from the sea.
The structure, in local stone, is inserted in an urban and marine context characterized by port, open sea and Mediterranean coastal landscape, with a strategic position that allowed the visual control of the surrounding sea tract and the naval routes.
The architecture is typical of Sardinian coastal towers, with massive shape and vertical development, designed to withstand climate conditions and ensure a surveillance function. The surrounding environment is characterized by wind, salsedine and Mediterranean vegetation, which help to define the coastal landscape.
