Villaggio Ipogeo Grotte Sant’Antioco

The Ipogee Village of Sant’Antioco is located in the historical center of Sant’Antioco, in Sulcis-Iglesiente, and is one of the most important examples of underground architecture of Sardinia. The site consists of a complex of environments dug into the rock, used over the centuries as houses, deposits and work spaces.
The pituitary structures develop within ancient cavities and galleries, characterized by rooms dug in the rocky counter, corridors and interconnected environments, which testify to a historical adaptation of man under the conditions of the territory. The conformation of the soil has favoured the realization of completely underground housing spaces.
