Villaggio minerario di Sa Duchessa

The mining village of Sa Duchessa is located in the territory of Domusnovas, in Sulcis-Iglesiente, and is one of the most significant examples of industrial archaeology immersed in the natural context of the Marganai Forest. The site, discovered in 1870, was an important extractive center for the extraction of zinc, silver and copper, active until the definitive closure in 1971.
The complex is divided into two distinct nuclei: Sa Duchessa de Bàsciu, at lower altitude, where the remains of the lavery, the direction and the accommodation of the miners, and Sa Duchessa de Pitzus, located in a higher position and directly connected to the mine, characterized by stone buildings designed to resist the most extreme climatic conditions.
